Or so wishes the Left.
In an August National Review article, National Organization for Marriage President Maggie Gallagher attributes the quote in this post title to “a man in the entertainment industry.” It is very telling of liberal tactics when it comes to their dealings with Carrie.
Most have probably heard by now that Carrie is accused of being in a “sex tape” (though the sensation-seeking website that broke the story apparently doesn’t think it matters that she isn’t actually having sex with anyone in the video).
The “scandal” broke just days before the launch of Carrie’s brand new book, “Still Standing: The Untold Story of my Fight Against Gossip, Hate, and Political Attacks.” The book chronicles what really happened behind the scenes at the Miss USA pageant leading up to and following Carrie’s defense of traditional marriage in response to a question by gay activist and Hollywood blogger, Perez Hilton. Carrie uses her compelling and shocking story to reveal how the Left will go to any length to slander and silence conservative women.
Though the events of the past week have undoubtedly been painful and embarrassing for Carrie, it has–as she has correctly pointed out in interviews–completely proven her point. Sites like TMZ, Perez Hilton, and other Hollywood blogs have spent a lot of time and energy over the past seven months since the pageant trying to make Carrie look bad, and they would love nothing more than for conservatives to leave her hanging out to dry; to make sure she “dies broke and alone.”
It’s ironic how the Left only cares about moral standards when conservatives are alleged to have “broken” them.
But conservatives cannot sit idly by while the Left continues to beat down our conservative women. Yes, Carrie made a mistake when she was 17 years old, but who hasn’t? She takes full responsibility for her actions, and she is using it as an example to young women of what not to do. Not only has she learned from her mistakes, but she’s doing whatever she can to help others learn from them, too! Like me and each of you reading this post right now, Carrie is not perfect, nor does she claim to be, and because of her strength and poise in the face of the many trials she has faced she deserves to be promoted as a role model for young women.
But regardless of what happens, Carrie knows that her identity doesn’t come from liberals; it doesn’t even come from conservatives. It comes from God, and because of His love and forgiveness she can take comfort in knowing that she will never die broke and alone.
Uh, I think lumping in Perez Hilton, TMZ and Hollywood blogs as “The Left” is a bit much. There’s a lot of different voices in “The Left” and just as its wrong to classify all republicans and conservatives as the exact same, it’s wrong to cast Perez Hilton of all people as the voice of “The Left”. There were plenty of liberal leaning sites that complained about how Perez was writing about Prejean.
That said, I do NOT think Prejean is a very good role model. When people hold themselves up as moral and make judgements about the morality of others, their lapses and hypocrisies will be noted, and with good reason. She did not articulate her original answer that started this whole mess well. She did not handle herself well on Larry King. You don’t need a vast liberal media conspiracy to show that Prejean is either unable to handle pressure or not a particularly intelligent individual.
Also, would someone please explain to me how, in a country where our constitution has the words “Separation of church and state” gay marriage is an issue? Aren’t we at the point where its just known that there’s a difference between a legal marriage and a religious one? If it doesn’t have to be officiated by a church is a marriage recognized by federal law so sinful?
